Getting an AWS Serverless Badge
I learnt about the relatively new AWS Serverless Badge and training through Ramesh Ranganathan’s repost and decided to go through it as I wanted to learn more about AWS’ Serverless technologies. A set of mini courses covering all the AWS Serverless technologies is offered as a learning plan. The learning plan covers 7 areas including concepts, architecture, AWS Lambda, AWS API Gateway, AWS DynamoDB, Security, Monitoring and Observability. The mini courses include short videos and quizzes but there are no hands-on labs. It is not mandatory to complete the learning plan to attempt the assessment but it is helpful to do so as the topics covered in the courses form the assessment questions. I completed the learning plan and found the mini courses in it very helpful.
The assessment is online and can be taken from home at no cost. A score of 80% is required to clear the test and earn the badge. There is no time limit and the test can be taken multiple times. This is where it differs from a full-fledged certification. The key areas where the questions are centered on are: AWS API Gateway, AWS Lambda and AWS DynamoDB. There are a few monitoring and troubleshooting related questions on Amazon CloudWatch that are a bit tricky if you have not worked adequately with it. The questions are mostly case-based and on hypothetical scenarios mimicking real-life situations. A solid event-driven and API background will help in clearing the assessment easily. On successful completion of the assessment, a badge is provided by Credly.
Overall, a good program (learning plan and assessment) to understand AWS Serverless technologies and I am hoping to use the knowledge to help customers adopt the Serverless services for their needs.
